A birthday thought

I have walked on this earth for a full 31 years as of today.

When I look back, it doesn’t seem that long at all … all through the sweet carefree days  of pre-school, the exciting school days to  university and work- the years have just rolled by …

I never made a big deal of my or anyone else’s birthday. But I do think they are important; at least as a reminder that we just passed a milestone in the road of life. They force us to take stock of what we have done so far and what we should be doing in the future. After all, we are living on borrowed time. One day, when our number gets called, we curl up and die … We may believe different things on what happens or what does not happen after that, but we all agree on one thing; our time here and now is very important. We definitely got to make the most out of it!

Debugging PHP with PDT and XDebug

This post is for PHP developers currently not using a proper PHP debugger.
Installation and configuration of PDT (PHP Development Tools for Eclipse) with the excellent XDebug debugger is discussed in a step-by-step fashion. Please note that my intention is to allow a beginner to get up and running quickly. So my apologies for not discussing all aspect of the procedure in detail. I must also warn you that there could be other (possibly better) ways of getting the same thing done.

Why Blog?

Why do we blog?
What’s in blogging that makes thousands of people take it up, and devote a considerable portion of their working time on it?
Looking closer to home, I ask myself; why exactly did I start to blog?

For me, it is really simple:

Like all human beings, I like to express myself. Through blogging, I want my ideas to resonate in other minds, for them to find fertile ground within others. I want to grow as a person, and I want to help others grow along with me as a result of that intellectual interaction.
This is why I blog.

A note on this blog…
I started this blog on Sunday and as of Tuesday, my hit-counter already reads over 450 hits.
Of course I bugged many of my friends to read the blog… and I am not exactly sure about the actual number of different people that read this.
But seeing the hit counter going-up and reading the comments, made me extremely- almost childishly, happy!

කරන්නට වැඩ බොහෝ ඇතත්, ඒ සදහා ඇත්තේ කුඩා කාලයක් පමණයි.
කාල පරිපාලනය ලේසි දෙයක් නොවේ. ඒ සදහා සුදුසු ක්‍රම/මෙවලම් සොයා පසුගිය වසර කීපය තුල බොහෝ පොත පත කියෙව්වා. නමුත් ඒ කිසිම ක්‍රමයක් හරි ගියේ නැහැ, මේ වනතුරු …

මේ ක්‍රමය බොහොම සරළයි. ඒත් සාර්ථක එකක් බව අත්දැකීමෙන් දන්නවා …

1. මුලින්ම දැනට කරන්නට ඇති ‍වැඩ සියල්ලේම ලැයිස්තුවක් හදනවා.
   • මෙසේ කල විට හිතට සෑහෙන සැහැල්ලුවක් දැනෙනවා. ඔලුවේ ඇති වැඩ පැත්තක තිබ්බා වාගේ …
   • ‍ගතවන කාලය අනුව, වැඩ කාණ්ඩ තුනකට බෙදෙනවා දිග (පැය 8 ට වැඩි), සාමාන්‍යය (පැය 1-8 අතර), සහ කෙටි (පැය 1 ට අඩු) වැඩ වශයෙන්.
2. මුළු මාසය සදහාම ඇති දින කාල නිර්ණය කල සිද්ධි සදහා කාල සටහනකුත් පාව්ච්චි කරනවා.
3. එක් එක් දිනය සැලසුම්/සටහන් කරගැනීම සදහා, ඒ4 ප්‍රමාණයේ පිටුව බැගින් පාව්ච්චි කරනවා.
   • උඩ දකුණු පැත්තේ, “ප්‍රධාන වැඩ” හා “අනෙකුත් වැඩ” සදහා ලැයිස්තු දෙකක් තිබෙනවා.
     • මේ ලැයිස්තුවල ලිවීම, දවස පටන්ගන්නා විටම කිරීම අ‍වශ්‍යය නැහැ. දවස ගතවන විට, ඒ අනුව පිරවීම ප්‍රමානවත්.
   • පිටුවේ වම් පැත්තේ, ඒ ඒ වැඩ සදහා ගතවූ කාලය වාර්තා කිරීමට සිරස් කුඩා කොටු පේලි දුසිමක් පමණ තිබෙනවා.
     • පළමු සිරස් ‍පේලි හතර “ප්‍රධාන වැඩ” සදහායි. ඊලය පේලි හතර “අනෙකුත් ‍වැ‍ඩ” සදහායි.
     • සෑම කුඩා කොටු‍වක්ම (සාමාන්‍යයෙන්) විනාඩි 15 ක් නිරූපනය කරනවා. යම් වැඩක් සදහා ගතකල කාලය ඒ සදහා ඇති‍ කොටු‍ව පිරවීමෙන් සටහන් කරන්න පුළුවනි.
     • මේ ගැන වඩා හොද අදහසක් ලබාගැනීමට මෙම පාව්ච්කරන ලද දින සැලසුම් පිට අධ්‍යයනය කරන්න.

‍වෙලාව තිබේනම් මේ ක්‍රමය අත්හදා බලන්න … ඔබේ අත්දැකීම මටත් කියන්න…

සටහන: දින සැලසුම් පිට සදහා මුල් අදහස “ඩේව් සියා” හා “ගේන්න අමතකවූ කිරි” යන බ්ලොග් අඩවිවලින් ලබා ගත්තෙමි.

I am Nalaka and this is my blog.

I plan to share my thoughts as I  move through life from my little corner of the world- the beautiful island nation known as Sri Lanka.

I like to describe myself primarily as a researcher and a computer professional. I also teach and write.

My first language is  Sinlalease- English the second. I will be using both languages in this blog.
Someday, I plan to blog in Tamil as well- that is of course when I finally get around to learning it.
